Mosquito OBA - Port Dover CHAMPS!
Submitted By Kaylen Burgess on Tue 07 09, 19
Another Successful Weekend for our Mosquito OBA Pirates. Over the weekend the Mosquito team travelled up to Port Dover to compete in the "C" division  tournament.

The Pirates started off with a tuff matchup but a win vs. the Belle River Braves with a score of 10-0 on Friday night. Saturday round robin play was suspended due to rain for majority of day but was able to get our second game in vs. Aylmer Pirates late in the evening with a blowout 27-0 victory.

Come Sunday our final game of the round robin ended with a 10-6 win over the host Port Dover Sailors. For the second straight tournament the Pirates ended round robin play being the number one seed in the twelve team tournament.

This meant a semi final match up against our own local rival the Wyoming Wranglers. The wranglers and pirates have had great duels in past years and this game was no different. The game was deadlocked the first 4 innings with no runs being scored, the pitching on both sides was stellar and neither team could break the stalemate. In the fifth inning the Pirates got things started and scored 9 runs in the bottom of the inning with hits scattered among the entire team. Due to time limit being enforced the game ended with the Wranglers not being able to muster a comeback in their half of the inning but meant the Pirates were onto their second straight tournament finals.

This time around the pirates still had plenty of gas left in the tank for their third game of the very long day with the final not starting till 7:00 pm. Our opponent the Beamsville Stingers gave our Pirates the same stingy defence as the Wranglers did but was able to get the scoring started with the first run of the game in the second inning. The pirates tied things up in the third and then pulled away for good in the fourth and never looked back. The pirates scored 4 runs in the sixth inning to finish off the stinger team and come away with the championship victory.

Congratulations to our Mosquito OBA team!!!
